about

These were made 1997 to early 1998 just before I left NZ to live overseas for the first time (hence the title), to go live in Tokyo.

Living in the Past was originally written as a remix—my first!—for Aspen (the incredible Bevin Smith) and appeared on his ‘Album’ album. Bevin’s production was so advanced: I couldn’t understand how he’d made it, so I felt like I was stuck in the past with what I was doing:)

'Album' is still a beautiful listen: aspen.bandcamp.com/album/album

South Exit is a really special one; it was the first time I felt I really cracked the Roland JX-3P, whose sonic possibilities defined the sound I seek—even as I’ve moved onto other instruments—particularly the ebb and flow of its LFO.

No memories at all of Strange Summer:) But regardless, these three tracks belong together.

Greetings Earthlings. Let's Bandcamp. Give me a follow as I'll be putting up—at a maddeningly sporadic rate—some of my vinyl-only releases. And some of those ol' Nurture records at some stage too.
